Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I currently teach a class of 25 students in the Bronx NY. Although many of the kids are very excited and eager to learn, many of them are currently very behind. Many of the parents are willing to assist at home, but don't necessarily have the resources to do so. This is where you come in.

I am asking for a scanner.

A scanner can help my students in so many ways. With a scanner I can integrate technology in my classroom. A scanner allows me to incorporate various forms of media, such as maps, photos, and even other student's work into the curriculum. I can take a full-size map, scan it, shrink it, and paste it into a Word document, printing out a small copy for each student. This would allow each kid to have tangible resources to help assist in learning.

I can also scan old photographs, for subjects such as Social Studies or science and put them into a Power Point presentation making the learning more visual and interesting. I can take pictures of anchor charts, scan and shrink them and kids can have their own personal charts for step by step math instructions to help assist them with problem solving. I can even scan student work to send home for parents to see and assist in any way that they can. I can scan resources that are scarce and email to the parents so they can help, at home. I can use items, and artifacts to make the lessons more engaging. Scanning allows me to have digital portfolios to better craft individualized assistance for each student while I'm at home. It assists in the differentiated planning that I can do. Planning can be more intentional and specific.
