My Students

Do you remember how much technology has played an impact in your education? My students are beginning to because Donors Choose has helped us acquire technology that we frequently use in the classroom. The problems are we spend too much time setting up and hooking up wires and making copies.

My students have multiple disabilities ranging from hearing and speech impairments, autism, down syndrome, physical disabilities to mental retardation.

They LOVE TO LEARN about everyday life skills such as Economics and Financial Literacy. They do not allow their disabilities to impede their thirst for knowledge and their yearning to be as independent as possible. Our school is an occupational training center, which means we teach our students life skills to prepare them for work and independent living when they graduate. My students require lots of visual aids to support their learning. This is where I use the technology I have acquired in my everyday lesson. We wait to make copies of worksheets and we set up the technology equipment to use for our budgeting lessons. Preparing it takes a lot of time away from teaching. Please help by donating the technology cart and the scanner.

My Project

My students are currently learning about Economics and Financial Literacy. We are learning about how to identify coins and bills and its value as well as exploring the cost of items and budgeting. The scanner would be used to scan various economics and budgeting problems worksheets. The scanned worksheets will then be projected onto the board with the classroom projector. So that my students could work on it in their groups. This will cut waiting time for our worksheets to be copied. The multi-media cart will be used to store the various technology that we use in the classroom. This will decrease preparation time for all the technology equipment that I will use since it is set up already. This will ensure that my students will no longer trip over the many wires/extension cords that are plugged in throughout the classroom when we use the projector, laptop and other equipment. This will provide a safer environment for my students.

By funding this project, you will be providing my students with more time to learn about economics and financial literacy, which is a basic skill they need to learn in order to be more independent in life.
