Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach three sections of 7th grade Integrated Science, one section of Physics, one section of Chemistry and International Baccalaureate Physics with a total of 175 students. My school is located in an urban area and has 2,900 students in it. Our school is the oldest one in the city.

My students are a diverse mix of low and high-income urban students.

They represent many ethnic and racial groups. I also teach a wide array of classes.

I teach physics, biology, chemistry, earth science, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate Physics. The students all love applied science and hands-on activities.

My Project

The use of scales is something I want every student to have. In my class, we share only a few digital scales. I want to build activities where students work in pairs measuring objects. I plan to use the digital scales in the units of mechanics and particle physics. Students will mass objects to study the effects of momentum during collisions.

The two luggage scales will be used to have students experience Newton's third law of motion.

The will be able to measure action-reaction force pairs in real time when we connect rope between them and have students tug.
