Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York. My students attend school in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation-an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.

The expert in anything was once a beginner.

My students are a hard working group who are persistent and determined to do well in school. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.

My Project

Being able to communicate, collaborate and be collegial are 21st century skills. A Qball will help me engage my students in classroom discussions where they can agree or disagree, build on the ideas of others, and build their academic vocabulary and language skills. So often in classroom discussions, the students who are shy or speak softly often go unheard. No doubt, they are able to connect ideas and/or build on the ideas of others, but often go unheard in a large classroom. The Qballs, wireless microphones, can be tossed like balls around so the voices of students agreeing or disagreeing will be amplified. This will give a voice to those soft spoken or quiet students so they are engaged and active participants in classroom discussions. With two Qball microphones two separate groups can sit in a circle and discuss topics from different points of view. The Qballs will enable students to be heard by their peers and the explain math or science concepts. The Qballs will ensure they are clearly heard by all. Your support is needed to give every child a voice to ensure they are engaged during class discussions. The Qballs will also help them share their ideas and support them in make their thinking visible to others.
