My Project

This school year we have started to teach UFLI, which is a phonics program. There is a section in UFLI where the kindergarten students need to say the word, tap the sounds, and then write the word. The Elkonin (sound) boxes will support the phonics skills taught in whole-group and small-group instruction.

The kindergarteners would benefit from using magnetic dry erase boards with Elkonin (sound) boxes because they will support instruction, and provide student practice with our district's UFLI phonics resource.

The magnetic Elkonin (sound) boxes will include a visual and tactile component to the lessons for kinesthetic learning. This material also supports the UFLI phonics resource that our district began implementing this school year. Furthermore, this material provides another tool to help build our kindergarten students’ foundational skills for reading and writing.

These boards are non-consumable and will be reused each school year until they need to be replaced. This means that they could be utilized by many kindergarten students over the course of multiple school years.
