My Students

I would love for my students to be able to take pictures of all the fun activities that go on in first grade.

I teach a first grade gifted and talented class at a high poverty school in New York City.

There are 24 children in the class, all with extremely diverse needs. They are some amazing thinkers with a love for learning and lots of great ideas to share all the time.

My Project

This year my students and I have discovered a great way to share all of our fun first grade adventures with family, friends and other classes. We have started blogging! Each child in my class has his/her own child-friendly blog to write about the events that go on in our classroom. We often include photos with our blogs, but these pictures are taken by me with my own personal camera. I don't mind using my own camera, but I don't always feel comfortable letting the kids use my camera, which has personal photos on it. I am also afraid that it will accidentally be dropped and break. If we could get two Olympus Tough 3000 digital cameras for our classroom, the children could take photos with these cameras and be able to post photos on the blogs as seen through their own eyes. These specific Tough cameras are perfect for little first grade hands because they have built-in shock-absorbing technology to prevent them from damage when dropped!

With two Olympus Tough 3000 digital cameras for our first grade classroom, the children would be able to use them to document their learning as they see it.

These photos could be posted on their blogs so that parents can see all that goes on in first grade. I will not have to worry about my personal camera anymore, as we will have very durable cameras to use instead! These cameras will give my students opportunities to continue exploring their interests in technology.
