This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students have multiple handicaps. For many of them, there are oral motor issues, sensory issues, and/or significant developmental and cognitive delays. So many of my students still need to teeth or place things in their mouth when they would not typically be expected to at their age. My students need teethers that best meet their current needs so that we can eventually ween them off.
My goal is for my students to have chewables and other oral motor tools so that their oral motor sensory needs met close to or within conventional expectations for their age group.
The best way to do that is to use strong enough teethers that are not just made for babies and to find some that cannot fit entirely in the mouth of an upper elementary child. We also need the same shape to be provided, so that the students know, that these teethers are the only things placed in their mouths besides food. The straps and clips are for students who cannot always hold onto items for a significant period of time.
