My Students

"Organization is about reducing stress, saving time and money, and improving your overall quality of life. " Soon, a new group of high school freshman will enter my classroom where we will set goals, discuss college, explore science, and so much more. With such great plans, it'll be key to stay organized.

My students attend a historically low performing school and are in desperate need of some transformational changes in how they are educated.

The majority of the students I teach are the lowest performing students at the school. They are academically at risk of dropping out. They are faced daily with the struggles of poverty, violence, and low expectations. Despite this, my students are profoundly inquisitive. They are resilient and creative beyond belief. They are light-hearted, caring, and vocal. They process and interpret the world with a point of view that only a small portion of our society has the opportunity to witness. I come excited to work every day because there is so much potential and promise with these young minds.

My Project

My students explore science through many hands-on activities and labs. Science can get pretty pleasantly messy. Handouts and student work can be ruined. Laminating documents will help resolve this problem as well as drastically reduce printing needs. Instead of printing almost 200 copies of an handout for each student, a class set can be made and preserved with the materials provided by this project. Also, since printing will be reduced, documents can be printed in color. Color printing will allow students to gain a better understanding of visuals such as diagrams and flow charts. Lastly, handouts and student work will be able to be better organized using the space saving cascading organizer.

Though my students live in poverty and attend a school with little resource, my greatest wish for them is to be able to reach their highest potential regardless of any obstacles.

I teach my students not to make any excuses for them becoming excellent. I'd like to be able to help them conquer as many obstacles as possible. Receiving these classroom materials serve as one obstacle that we can eliminate and not allow to stand in the way of excellence.
