This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At-Home Learning through e-Classrooms and a Virtual Google Meets 90 mins each class all day. It has hit these young students, and me quite a bit differently than others dealing with COVID-19. As I approach the 2nd Semester of Distant Virtual at Home Learning and Working at a G.L.O.B.A.L. school, I need to provide these young developing minds with all the resources they should have. Unfortunately, they still do not have full access, with testing just around the corner.

My students are 99% English language learners and all receive free lunch.

They took their exams in their 1st language and now everything is in English and they are struggling readers that are compassionate and caring. Just issuing each a personal copy of Hidden Figures from another project had their eyes illuminated with excitement.

They are remaining at home to ensure their safety and longevity of life while trying to be educated through this pandemic at a crucial year of life 7th-grade. The Summer Programs for the district offered so much for the students, yet there has been zero support at all for the materials to be available to the students at home and allow them to achieve the same level.

My Project

I was so excited to have a GREAT Project in April for Financial Literacy Month and was able to get the board game Pay Day into the hands of ALL of my students. Well, I realized this is very much how it happens in Real-Life.

One gets a job and earns a paycheck and just starts spending not realizing the impact long-term financially without fully understanding the foundations of Saving and Spending after developing a Budget Plan.

I went with the recommended grade-level content when in reality most people are financially in elementary school when it comes to the concept of Financial Literacy and Retirement. So I am going back and starting with the basics of teaching my students about planning, saving, and spending for the Pay Days they will get in the future. I need the Saving and Spending Financial Kits in order to complete this project and with COVID restriction each student needs their own game. The calendar and planner will help the groups stay organized and know their day of Saving and Spending Plan Meetings like a Family.
