My Students

I teach at an impacted urban high school with 4,400 students. Nearly all of our students are designated low socioeconomic status with a large population of English language learners. Despite our population, our high school believes that every student can achieve and strives to push them forward to a secondary educational option.

The students who take my classes are generally reading and writing at lower than grade level.

They need resources to help them close the achievement gap and succeed.

My Project

Learning to write a screenplay is difficult enough, but without books or computers, it's practically impossible. My students are all English language learners taking a creative writing class and our next unit is on screenplays.

Save The Cat is easy to read and understand, especially for students learning English.

This project will allow my students to get practically experience with reading and writing that they can turn into a marketable skill. In this digital age, being able to write and analyze screenplays is an asset if looking for a job in the media or creative fields. Please help my students learn English in new and applicable ways.
