My Students

My students and their families come from all over the world, but they all have one thing in common: they live in New York City. In "the city that never sleeps," my students have to make it to high school by 8:05 every morning, a challenging task on its own!

My students want to explore the world, to go to college, and to find a career that can take them places.

Some have lived very challenging lives already, but all of them are eager to move forward. Many of them say that they wish they were smarter, or they wish the class was easier, but they are all learning that hard work itself will make them brilliant.

My Project

Imagine being trapped in a small, confined space. Now imagine trying to write an argument essay while you're there! My students desperately need some new classroom furniture. All of the students have to sit in the rigid chair/desk combinations that our school staff lovingly refer to as "one-armed bandits." This makes group work difficult, and for students who have trouble sitting still, or who are simply larger than the standard sized body, it makes class time torture.

We found a stash of desks, but no chairs to go with them, so we need your help to purchase enough chairs for everyone to sit in.

Students will be able to move the desks and chairs around freely, push desks together for group work, and simply push back their chairs if they need a little bit of space. We have been struggling to find ways to make our classroom more comfortable, but without the freedom to move their desks and chairs around, we will continue to feel trapped.

A new set of chairs would mean so much to my students, who would finally be free to sit how they choose!
