My Students

My scholars are International Baccalaureate students at an urban inner-city high school. Our curriculum is both diverse and rigorous. We strive to provide high quality education to students from all walks of life. My classroom is project-based, and scholars lead their own learning with guidance and examples from both me and other professionals in the field. Fulfilling goals set by them for them help my scholars learn the importance of independence, leadership, and free thinking.

Scholars in Humanities classes practice important skills for college and career: reading comprehension, analysis, synthesis, negotiation, and argument.

The class topics today include U.S. Government and Economics, but the skills these scholars develop will go well beyond the classroom to help them become strong citizens tomorrow.

My Project

Years ago, in a dark hallway, after uncovering an all-too-well lit room of dusty books and artifacts, a group of young scholars realized they stumbled on a treasure trove of school history that needed to be protected. They found yearbooks, school newspaper bindings, letterman sweaters, trophies, and much more dating back more than 125 years! Since this discovery, this student-led group cleaned and organized the room, established a collection and protocol for managing it, and wrote grants to preserve the collection.

Now that the safety of this historic collection has been stabilized, this group of scholars has made it their mission to solidify their legacy with a museum exhibit at the school.

The laptop computer will serve as a central hub for the group's meetings. It will run software that has been purchased with grant funding and record and save oral histories from alumni. The paper and foam board materials are first steps to acquiring materials needed for the museum exhibit project. Our scholars will benefit from this experience through experiential learning of creating an exhibit. The entire school - including students, staff, alumni, and community stakeholders - will benefit from having the school's history on display.
