Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Help bring peace to youth in urban communities! Our youth are going down the wrong path.

I teach in an urban district with one of the highest homicide rates in the country. Our school is 90% African American and many of my students do not have opportunities for positive experiences with people outside of their cultural group. They make a lot of assumptions and have a lot of misconceptions about others.

The MOSAIC Project is a week-long camp where students from very different communities come together to live, work, play, share meals, sing, and, most importantly, learn how to drop the stereotypes and build authentic relationships based on trust and open-mindedness. I've taken two classes to this camp in the past. It has been life-changing for them - years later, they still talk about it and their younger siblings (who are now my students) can't wait to get there!

Funding for education has been drastically cut. Our school has paid the fees for this camp in the past, but we no longer have the funds to do this. MOSAIC Camp is a life-altering experience for youth. The lessons they learn will help them to have an open mind and a positive attitude towards self and others. They will learn how to work through problems in a healthy way and to stand up for themselves in a way that is assertive and respectful. This camp is a necessary experience for urban youth and your donations will help to make it happen for our students.
