Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students that I serve are inquisitive, interested, and eager for information. Being in an underserved community, they are not afforded the opportunities that most students have. For example, resources such as technology and libraries at home and in the classroom.

Our school is filled with students with varying interests that I am trying to meet.

We are not only their educators but also their counselors, their resource officer, their confidante to name but a few. Many of our students come from immigrant households where education is impressed upon them as a means to a successful life. Our school serves more than for education but for life skills to allow them to compete in a global market in the twenty-first century but also skills to help them be who they can be.

My Project

This school year I have the wonderful pleasure to teach students in 6th and 7th grade Cambridge. This program is designed to prepare through rigorous instruction for our students to be leaders in a global society. This requires students to understand how they interact with others in the world as well as with the things that we are responsible for such as our environment.

Through the deep analysis of topics, themes, and character analysis in books, students will learn how to view the global world through the eyes of informed citizens.

Books such as Refugee and Long Walk to Water will help to examine the plight of those around us and how we can make a difference a though thousand miles away. Reading Fish In a Tree allows students to accept our differences and meet each other where they are at. Long Way Down will help students examine the social consciousness and be empathetic for people not like us.
