My Students

I teach students from various cultural backgrounds. With these differences, each student adds something wonderful to create a dynamic learning environment. They enjoy working and learning together and using their imaginations to create new worlds. The students enjoy listening to many different stories and hearing about the adventures of their favorite literary characters. The school is a large urban public school where all of the students receive free or reduced priced lunch. The Head Start program services students from low income families.

My Project

I am seeking to add a sandbox to my classroom. I feel that Science is important for young children. Through the use of a sandbox, my students can explore, use imaginative play, strengthen fine motor skills, add to their sensory vocabulary, collaborate, and experience impermanence. These skills are essential to the preschool experience. The students will not only learn many useful skills, but they will also have fun while learning and working together. Students love learning while "getting their hands dirty." Exploratory play is important for every preschooler, and sand is the best way for young learners to investigate and explore.
