Sand tables are a wonderful way to bring pieces of nature along with an overall natural feel into the classroom. Through sand, children will traverse into a sensory filled imagination that inspires thought and feel into a school environment. Sand is a great way to learn and have fun!
Children love playing with sand.
Building sandcastles, tunneling sand through tubes, and even sharing materials to help a friend build their sand world are just some of the ways this sand table can be used. Sharing the space and the materials with a friend are great ways to promote sharing for our youngest learners. Keeping the area as clean as possible is an intuitive way to help promote cleanliness, clean up, and responsibility.
Sand and water are phenomenal resources to use for sensory learning. Sand and water can be used to help promote learning through sensory play by helping with tracing letters/numbers/shapes in sand, promoting language through describing what the children are feeling and doing, and with their overall sense of fun (their energy).
