My Students

In my school library, I introduce children to the world outside their neighbor through books. I include many multicultural lessons in my curriculum. I teach my students how to use technology for learning and research. They will become very adapt at using online references by the end of the year.

Our school consists of grades K through 6.

We have a diverse population primarily comprised of Haitian-Creole and Hispanic students with about 45% of the population enrolled for free or reduced lunch. Our students are eager to learn and deserve the opportunity to utilize technology as part of their library curriculum. Our school is new this year and we are in need of more books as well as technology such as tablets, computers and even a projector.

My Project

Our curriculum is designed to prepare our students to be well-rounded individuals and help them develop critical thinking skills. I will use tablets and computers to teach my students how to use online reference resources. The students will use their library card to access the many great reference databases such as Biography in Context, Amazing Animals and America the Beautiful that our county library offers. My students will become better researchers and learn how to determine what information is credible. My students will learn about citation skills and how and when to cite. My students will become more adapt at using technology by the end of the year.

Your donation of these items will make it possible for them to acquire the skills they need in order to do well in high school and college.

I will show them how technology is used and allow them the opportunity to become more sufficient utilizing it. Ultimately, you are giving them the chance to learn how to use these tools and prepare them for college. It is my sincere hope that this is a stepping stone in getting them to get excited about learning and technology.
