My Students

What child isn't captivated by science? Here is a reading program that includes science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing engaging informational text along with videos and beautiful graphics.

I teach a wonderful international population in a New York City public school.

Our school community is global and the diversity of the cultures represented enriches all members of our elementary school. Our borough of Queens is acknowledged to be one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the nation. We speak many languages and our parents appreciate the important role education plays in their children's success. The parents have high expectations and so we must strive to provide the best possible resources to address the children's educational needs. The families of our children recognize the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and how an expansive knowledge base in those areas can contribute to the students' success.

My Project

Sally Ride Academy just rolled out its classroom license for its multimedia STEM reading program. Up until now, licenses were for more students and participation required the purchase of the larger license regardless of the number of users. The informational text, videos, e-books, activities, student guides and assessments that are part of the online license make this program an absolute winner. Engaging, exciting, interesting, and accountable, all components work for both the students, the teachers, and the need to address Common Core requirements. Now that this program is more affordable because of its brand new price structure, we would love to bring it to my fifth grade students. Students could read articles, answer questions about what they read, take online assessments, watch videos, and even write about what they have read with this program. Students could also access the program from home.

This reading program is powerful and just the kind of support that every student needs.

It is leveled so that children could read accessible texts that will expand their knowledge of science. The online component makes it easily available with a feature that allows the teacher to log in and evaluate student progress. The videos and images used are just captivating and so I know my students would love to be able to use the program. I hope we will get support to fund our proposal.
