This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our school we have a safety patrol program where model fourth and fifth grade students are selected to be safety patrols. Students who have the honor to wear the safety patrol belt and badge demonstrate diligence, responsibility, and trustworthiness as they perform their daily tasks. These students come from a diverse range of backgrounds and are faced with the difficulties and challenges of living in low income and high crime rate neighborhoods.

I feel that exposing these students to agencies that promote order and justice in their communities will build positive and meaningful relationships with law enforcement.

My goal for the patrols is to have opportunities like this field trip to help them to become men and woman of integrity wherever they may go throughout their lives.

My Project

My project consists of having our 23 school safety patrols visit the local police department. We have a partnership with North Miami Police in an effort to keep our school and students safe. Students will be allowed to tour the police headquarters and ask questions. They will also view and enter a real holding cell where detained suspects are held.

I feel that this field trip will give the students a different perspective that teaches them the importance of core values.

Core values such as fairness, integrity and honesty are the guiding principles that dictate behavior and help people understand the difference between right and wrong.
