Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The old Chinese proverb that states, "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" describes exactly the objective of our program. We teach and train young adults with special needs everything they need to know so that they can live independently on their own. We are called the Community Transition Program (CTP) and have students ranging in age from 18-22. We serve students with disabilities such as Down Syndrome, autism, visual or physical impairments, as well as learning disabilities. Our classroom is an actual apartment in our community.

My Project

Our young adults are in need of a quality printer so they can reproduce recipes on or even use to print worksheets to practice budgeting and paying bills on. They are also practicing job skills such as resume building and filling out practice job applications. A printer would be used daily! Furthermore, because our classroom is an apartment, we need to have a place where we can safely store items when we are not there. It would give us peace of mind to have a safe to store valuable things or student funds.
