Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a highly dedicated 11th-grade English teacher. I work with high school students who face significant challenges outside the classroom, which can affect their performance at school. To support them, I want to create a safe and comfortable space within my classroom, including a calming corner with bean bag chairs, rug, a rolling chair, and mental health/calming posters. This area helps them manage their emotions and avoid disruptions during emotionally charged moments. I also allow them to eat lunch in my classroom, providing a safe sanctuary for those who need it. I want to ask for plates, napkins, and eating utensils for this purpose.

I aim to educate these exceptional students and make them feel seen, heard, and cared for in a world of challenges.

Many of my students come from diverse and low-income backgrounds, yet they show remarkable dedication and resilience. I'm requesting notebooks and loose-leaf paper to ensure each student has the necessary tools for learning in my English class. This year, I want to re-introduce traditional writing in school, showcasing our shared commitment to their education and resilience.

My main objective is to provide my students with the necessary resources to thrive. While I can't change their external circumstances, I am determined and committed to creating a secure and nurturing environment within the classroom. By doing so, I aim to alleviate the stress of their external challenges and foster a conducive learning environment where they can flourish and grow.
