Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These books will open a new form of engagement with my students. I want my students to to be exposed to a more culturally diverse array of literature. It is extremely important for students to engage and connect with the material that they are learning, and this novel does a wonderful job of addressing specific social issues, and their corresponding movements that are relevant today. The Hate U Give brings forth topics like police brutality, gun violence, and the weaponizing of stereotypes to justify violence. These are all topics that our young crowd are exposed to on a daily basis, and I want to provide a safe space for my students to discuss these issues through Angie Thomas's novel.
