My Students

I teach 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from a range of backgrounds at a public school in Apple Valley,CA. My students come with a variety of interests, abilities, and needs. In class, I provide a variety of seating including camping chairs and cloth folding chairs. With new COVID restrictions, some of these options will no longer be allowed in compliance with safety protocols and will need to be replaced with surfaces that are easily wiped and cleaned. My students work hard each day to overcome their challenges and benefit from individualized seating styles. Your support will allow me to purchase new and safe seating for them when school resumes.

My Project

The use of flexible seating supports students in their academics, but also in their decision-making skills. They are taught how to select the best choice for them as well as how to handle and care for it. Students take pride in selecting their own seating and this supports them in their development as they prepare for a transition to upper campus.

Students feel welcome and important as they select their individual seating based on their needs for that day.

COVID is a curveball for many educators, as is finding ways to keep school safe, but also consistent with what students are used to.

As we prepare for the day students return to our classrooms we also anticipate the many changes that will have to happen to ensure a safe learning environment. This seating is a step in the right direction!
