Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The school is located in the Bronx, NY and serves as a community school where children are nurtured, loved and feel safe. My students inspire me every day. I am proud to watch them grow and learn despite the many obstacles they face outside of the classroom. With the pandemic still looming and school openings still in limbo, students will be in need of a variety of academic tools to help them with a hybrid model of learning.

Most of the students come from impoverished homes and lack many necessary resources to be successful leaning both at home and at school with an eye towards staying healthy.

Unfortunately, research proves that there is a link between poor academic performance and poverty. This coming September, we will be dealing with the challenge of teaching children remotely and at school in small groups. I will be teaching an ICT classroom with general education students and special education students.

I hope to provide the resources they require to help foster academic success while ensuring that students have what they need to stay healthy and feel safe.

My Project

This project will allow students to participate in a hybrid model of learning during these uncertain times. My NYC students need to have the resources to be able to either return to school safely or be able to learn at-home successfully. Most of my students come from homes that struggle financially, and often don't have what they need especially during this pandemic.

Funding this project, will enable my students to either safely return to their physical classroom and/or learn remotely in their own homes.

This will avail my students with the supplies to socially distance, keep germs away, and use digital resources in order to better focus on achieving academic excellence.

For example, many students live in noisy apartments with many family members sharing limited space. The headsets will allow students to focus without distractions and limit interruptions. In addition, many of their parents are essential workers and have to leave children home unsupervised. With these resources, students will be able to take charge of their own schoolwork and take pride in their accomplishments.
