My Students

The first year of school is a magical one! I teach kindergarten at a neighborhood public school in South Philadelphia. The learners in my classroom are diverse in experience, ethnicity/race, language, and culture. Even though they have started the school year in a very untraditional way--they are engaged and passionate learners.

My students started this year remotely and they cannot wait to go into their classrooms first the first time!

As we are likely to go back into the classroom soon, my students will be entering the physical classroom for the first time of the kindergarten year to meet their teacher and friends!

My Project

As my kindergarten students get ready to enter the classroom for the first time this year, these new tables will provide them with the space to sit at safe distances between one another. As my classroom currently exists, there is not enough furniture for my students to sit at a safe distance from one another. My students and I are eager to get back into the classroom but we want to do so safely.

When it is safe to do so, these tables will provide a collaborative learning space for students to learn and work together.

Communal tables are important for young children who are learning the of socializing and collaborating with their peers.
