My Students

My scholars are categorized as at-risk, food insecure, and a large percentage homeless, but that is not what defines us. It is our hunger for knowledge that stirs our educational passions to create a fruitful future through the exploration of food from our school garden to our plates.

My scholars are food adventurous and curious culinarians, who are inquisitive about where there food comes from and how to address and solve weighty issues within their own families and community.

They are invested in experiential-learning and believe if they grow, harvest, and cook, they can in-turn share it with others, and set a place at the table for everyone. My scholars are the next generation of food advocates, writers/critics, chefs and artisan craftsmen, horticulturalists, food scientists, urban farmers, and through the funding for this project, they can translate what they glean in class into their own homes.

My Project

COVID craziness has had me scrambling for ways to provide meaningful experiential learning crucial when educating beginner cooks. I wanted to recreate safe ways to cook-along with my chef scholars virtually. These plastic chef knifes and non-slip flexible cutting boards will allow scholars to sharpen their knife skills outside our kitchen classroom and into the safety of their homes.

These tools will allow me to provide much needed skills training to instill kitchen confidence and peace of mind for both parents, scholars, and educator as we strive to plate up learning in a digital space together.
