Our students come from culturally diverse working families. They have so many talents to share. We are known for having an accepting and positive culture with many student-centered clubs and projects. We are a Title I school, and the majority of our students are BIPOC.
They are exceptional kids with so much to offer.
Many of our students have spent most of their high school years in the temporary camp of portables while the new school was being built. After a partial year in the new school, the students had to leave because of shelter in place for Covid-19. We want to provide them with all of the tools necessary to achieve.
Our kids learn confidence through doing things they didn't know they were capable of. These kids work hard and are proud of their accomplishments.
My Project
Please help us with these retractable extension outlets to help students charge their laptops in class. We will install these extension outlets above each seating station so that all students have access to charge their laptops in their assigned seats. While we are a 1:1 district for student Chromebooks (which is awesome)..
Students often arrive with computers that are not charged.
This means that we are limited to 3 unused outlets in the classroom. This includes often unsafe extension cord strips that are compounded together and strung across the floors creating a trip hazard.
Equitable access to technology is not met if our students do not have the resources or habits to charge their devices the night before. In the meantime, learning is lost. It does little good to have a modern and amazing Chromebook if it is uncharged. Students who do charge their devices at home will then lose charge during the day from regular use and need to be able to work from their assigned safety stations.
These drop-down extension chords will improve the technological access of our students. A donation to this classroom will benefit all of the classrooms a student attends each day. Thank you so much for considering this donation to our classroom.
