My Students

Our Title I school is located in a diverse low-income community in which children face various challenges on an everyday basis and are at risk for falling behind academically.

My students are creative, hard-working, and enthusiastic learners!

They are always eager to come to my speech therapy room to work on speech sounds, listening, reading, writing, and social skills in a fun and engaging way.

My Project

Our district is returning to school this year with a blended learning model in which students will alternate between in-person and remote learning.

I want to ensure students feel safe and protected when they come to my room.

I service students from Pre-K through 5th grade in my speech therapy room either one-on-one or in small groups. While our district will supply masks, soap, and hand-sanitizers, I would also like to minimize exchange of materials between students from different classrooms. I believe this is a crucial step in reducing potential exposure to COVID-19.

In order to do that, I would like each student to have their own binder with a pencil pouch containing basic learning tools such as pencils, pens, erasers, crayons, and markers. This binder will also include lined paper for writing and students will add any other materials they will be working on throughout the school year. Students will use alcohol wipes to clean their binder and materials before each use. The wooden literature organizer provides separation of each binder adding an extra layer of protection. Saran wrap will be used to cover board games, toys, and other materials so that they can be cleaned with disinfectants.
