Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I walked into my classroom in August, I was surprised to see that my desks were taken away and replaced with tables. I wondered to myself, where are my students going to put their belongings? They are going to have to get up every time, go get the assigned basket and sit back down.

My school is in a low income neighborhood in Queens.

I have been a classroom teacher for 15 years. Year after year, we receive students fresh from their countries,not speaking a word of English. Since my school is in a low income area, the families are not asked to donate any classroom monies to be used by the teacher. These sacks are critical for organization and fluency to classroom flow.

My Project

As I stated above, these sacks are critical to classroom organization and fluency to classroom flow. Without these seat sacks, the children will have to keep going up to the bookshelf, getting their basket of books, going back to their seats, setting up only to clean up for the next period of work. These seat sacks will prevent all the traffic between periods. They will have their supplies right at their finger tips.

I believe these sacks are crucial and critical to classroom environment success.

They will be so effective in preventing classroom traffic and pure disarray. Can you imagine getting up from your desk to go get a pen and paper every time you had to write something down? They will really be an asset and greatly utilized.
