My Students

Remember when you were in kindergarten and did calendar time, listened to stories, and got to read books while sitting on a comfy carpet? What if you had no carpet and sat on the floor?

I teach kindergarten in a very low-income urban school.

Most of my students enter kindergarten, having no preschool experience. They are eager to learn! They excitedly sit on the floor and listen to stories being read, sing songs, participate in math activities, read books, and work in groups on the floor. Unfortunately, the old carpets were ripped up and replaced with hard floors.

My Project

Right now, my students sit on chairs or on the hard floor. One of these carpets will go in my library area, to enable the children to lay down or sit comfortably while reading, to truly enjoy reading. The other carpet will go in the main area of the room. The children will sit and lay on this carpet while working and learning.

These carpets will help make the classroom a bright and happy place to be.

The carpets will enable the children to enjoy the love of learning and reading while interacting with one another and being comfortable.
