My Students

On a typical day in our classroom we are on the floor reading, building, singing, dancing, and pretend playing. Providing them a clean, safe place to explore and learn is essential. Creating a fun environment will build a strong foundation for a lifetime of loving learning. Pre-K is where it starts.

My students are 4-5 year olds.

For many of these students this is the first time in a classroom. They are adventurous, curious, independent, and diverse. We provide them with a nurturing environment and in partnership with our parents, guide them towards meeting many milestones. Our school has a large population with many of our students English language learners. We provide services to our students in regards to their abilities and future success doing all of this with limited resources.

My Project

My students will use the carpet while listening to stories, learning new material, engaging with their peers, exploring new materials, reinforcing letter, number, and shape recognition, singing, participating in creative movement, music education, and preparing for reading, math, and writing. Pre-K is of vital importance for our students. Many of our students come to us with minimal exposure to very basic concepts. Without Pre-K these student would be faced with the demands of Kindergarten unprepared and already behind their classmates.

My request of a carpet will improve our classroom environment by defining the space the children may used for a particular activity.

Creating boundaries for children of this age help them in feeling secure. A carpet will also provide warmth from the cold floor during the winter months. A great deal of the children's time is spent on the floor so being able to reassure parents that their child is comfortable is priceless.
