My Students

PS 295 is Title I inner city school whose students represent many different countries and many languages. It is a vibrant community that embraces diversity by nurturing strengths and talents to educate the whole child socially, academically, culturally and artistically through differentiation in all facets of learning. In recognizing that all children learn in different ways, we believe that a curriculum that respects the arts cultivates a meaningful discovery of self and encourages respect and appreciation for the arts.

For the first time in many years, PS 295 has a dedicated music room.

All students engage in authentic musical activities in music class at least once per week. Our students are talented, creative and inquisitive.

My Project

My students need a place where they can sit and explore music in a safe, comfortable way. We have a rug, but it is too small. A new rug will provide each student with a specific seat spot. It will also invite them to experience music together and it will make the music room a more inviting place.

When I arrived at PS 295 last year, there was no dedicated music room.

This year -- and going forward -- there will be a dedicated music room and the students are very excited. They can now experience playing a wide variety of instruments. The rug will also protect our musical instruments from damage. Lastly, this rug will give my students a place to begin, to sing, to play, and to dance.
