My Project

Reading is a chore for most high school students. They often find it tedious and boring. Additionally, there are so few opportunities for hands-on activities in the ELA classroom. So, in an attempt to quell some of the boredom and shake things up a bit in ELA, I am hosting a Rousing Reading Challenge for all 9th and 10th grade students at my school. And what's a challenge without incentives?

In this venture, students will be able to participate in a group reading activity that includes challenge breaks such as sculpting answers from clay, manipulating magnetic letters in a context-clue scramble and scavenging for tangible items from the text.

After all of that work, a reward is warranted! Upon completion, with your help, each student will receive a piece of candy to sweeten the deal as well as a commemorative photo opportunity at the end.

Our students have worked really hard and are deserving of an opportunity to have some fun while learning. It's the perfect practice opportunity to discuss literature in a relaxed setting before gearing up for the standardized test coming soon. This activity will promote literacy skills, team-building and good old fashioned fun and we can use the assistance. Thanks in advance.
