My Students

My students come from a diverse community, and that's what makes our school and district so special! My school is in suburban Chicago with 70% low income. Our students love to come to school, and they try their best in all subjects.

Music is one of their favorite subjects of the day, and they look forward to coming each week to learn something new!

We are an active class of singers, players, movers and shakers. We love performing for each other and the school community.

My Project

I started a very successful 5th and 6th grade ukulele program a few years ago in my classroom, and the students have really taken to this fun, happy instrument. The ukulele is a universally simple yet joyous instrument to play, and I want all my students to have the same opportunity to make music. Through personal donations and my very small budget, we only have enough ukuleles for 3/4 of the class to play at a time. I would like to complete our last 1/4 of ukuleles and get good cases for the ones we currently have. That way, instruction can go twice as fast when I don't have to switch partners to re-instruct the lesson. These would be used widely in our school.
