My Project

As a social worker committed to supporting the mental health of underserved, minority high school students, I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is to create a space where students feel safe to express themselves and manage their stress. I’ve witnessed the powerful impact that small, simple tools can have—things like beads, weighted stuffed animals, snacks, invisible ink pens, notebooks, games, and fidgets. These items might seem small, but they provide more than just a distraction; they’re a bridge to connection, comfort, and self-expression.

For many students, these tools help them feel seen, heard, and valued.

Beads offer a creative way to express emotions while calming the mind. Weighted stuffed animals provide comfort, helping regulate anxiety and supporting emotional stability. Snacks, though simple, meet a basic need, showing the students that someone cares about their well-being. Invisible ink pens and games offer fun and engaging ways to think outside the box, fostering social interactions and emotional expression. Fidget tools are especially beneficial for students who struggle with anxiety or staying focused—they provide a healthy, sensory way to manage nervous energy.

Having a dedicated space where these tools are available helps students decompress, recharge, and feel more confident in handling the challenges they face. Your support will make it possible to provide these essential resources, helping to nurture resilience, emotional expression, and a sense of belonging for these students. Together, we can create an environment where they feel empowered to thrive and succeed, equipped with the tools they need to navigate both school and life.
