Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This corner of the room will have magnetic powers. Give us an interesting place to sit to read independently, and watch our love of language grow!

My students are a special needs kindergarten in a high needs school district in New York.

They are only beginning their time at school and are being introduced to all the things about learning they will love for years to come. My students many times have limited exposure to printed text and will benefit from a structured and peaceful place to explore books independently.

My Project

Independent reading will no doubt become the most anticipated time of our day. When given an opportunity to read in a very special place my students will build an early enthusiasm for reading. Many of my students come from places where they may not have positive reading skills modeled for them, these materials will give our class a chance to happily hone in on their books. My students are able to best focus when provided a separate classroom space to concentrate on the task at hand, and this space will give them a perfect place to read and reread all of their class favorites. My students need textured pillows, a beanbag chair,kid sized furniture and sit upons to inspire enthusiastic independent reading in an inviting area.

By giving my students a quiet, inviting place to read independently you will help to foster their life long love of reading.

What better place and time to get genuinely excited about sitting down with your favorite book than kindergarten? Help my little guys find the appeal and comfort in taking a break with a good book. By giving these special ed students a chance to focus on their reading you can provide something that is wonderful at any age- the chance to be transported by a story!
