My Students

I teach first grade at quintessential neighborhood school. Part of a Title 1 school and a STEAM Academy, our class has 14 boys and 13 girls and is a beautiful mix of all cultures and religions. I have the honor of guiding these students as they unlock their learning potential, and I want to give them every opportunity available to meet and exceed all learning standards

It has been said that the best learning experiences happen when students from all backgrounds and socio-economic statuses come together and grow as one.

In our classroom, children of newly immigrated parents are learning next to children of college graduates. We respect each other as we learn the true meaning of diversity.

My Project

In our class, we work in small groups to maximize our learning. During our literacy block, one of our small group learning opportunities is utilizing technology. Currently, we have 3 iPads and students must share a device when researching or creating projects. This is not the best use of technology as the students are not always able to focus on their own ideas. Being able to have their own iPad will enable students to better connect with the content ensuring a more meaningful learning experience.

Students will be able to access learning apps that reinforce their skills in literacy, math, and science.

It will also be easier to keep track of student progress - something that is difficult to do when students share iPads.
