Help Mrs. Lipford

I am the Media Coordinator at an elementary school. We have a student population of about 250. We are a Title I school with 85% of our students on free or reduced lunch. We are located in a city that thrived on the furniture industry. Most of our parents were employed with the furniture companies that are now closed so unemployment among our parents is very high. These circumstances make it very hard to raise money with fundraisers and to have money to replace worn books in the Media Center. Our emergent readers love the Rookie Reader books. The simple, repetitive vocabulary makes it easier for students to become fluent readers and advance on to early readers and beyond. The Rookie Reader books are used by all kindergarten and first grade teachers to guide the students to independent reading. These colorful books hold the students' interest and helps to build reader confidence. With these books being used so much throughout the school year, they have gotten worn, dirty, and of course lost. I would love to have some new Rookie Reader books so our students will continue to have a love for reading and become independent readers.
