My Project

My students are talented urban teens who are just beginning to discover the endless possibilities of art-making. Many of them are exploring ceramics for the first time because we are revitalizing ceramic classes after 10 years, and their enthusiasm for working with clay is inspiring. However, to fully support their growth and creativity, our ceramics program needs essential equipment—a slab roller.

A slab roller is a vital tool in any ceramics studio.

It allows students to create even, consistent clay slabs, opening the door to more advanced techniques like slab construction, tile-making, and textural exploration. Without it, these processes are not only more challenging but also limit the scope of what students can achieve. With a slab roller, my students will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills and execute their creative visions with precision.

My goal for this project is to provide my students with a well-rounded ceramics education. By giving them access to professional-grade tools, I hope to nurture their confidence, artistry, and problem-solving skills. This equipment will help them not only succeed in class but also explore potential futures in the arts.

These students are unique, brimming with talent, and eager to learn. For many, art is a pathway to self-expression and a source of pride.
