Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergartners are vivacious inner city kids who love to move, jump, play, touch and explore thier surroundings. My students come from all over the world. Many of them have been speaking in their native language all thier life. Now that they have entered our school, they are learning English as a second language along with learning math, science and social studies.

Our school is an inner city school servicing a large community of immigrant students and their families.

My students are at the heart of this community representing the beginning of the american dream as they take off in school.

My Project

Kindergartners today are expected to write everyday while they are still developing gross and fine motor skills. During center time, while they work and play, is where all the magic happens.

My kindergartners need playdough for our word study center.

They need to touch, squeeze, pound, roll and press playdough to develop those motor skills that will allow them to pick a pen and write!

They also need beautiful pens that they would want to pick up and write many stories with.

We teach our students that it is ok to make mistakes and when we do, we try and try again. So our class needs post it tape to help us fix our mistakes when we write so we can keep going and write more and more.
