This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are extremely special young scholars. They come from some of the toughest streets in Brooklyn. Even with the challenges they have to deal with outside of school on a daily basis, they still manage to come in to school with loving smiles and open hearts. They have embraced our schools five core values (SPARC) safety, persistence, attitude, respect, and community. They work extremely hard to earn good grades. I do my best to provide them with as many hands-on opportunities as I can to learn new concepts and they thrive when these opportunities are presented. They are eager to learn and they are eager to see their peers learn. The passion my students demonstrate on a daily basis in the face of adversity really serves as an inspiration to myself and my colleagues.

My Project

My students need a portable whiteboard so that when we are in an ICT (integrated co-teaching) setting, both teachers are able to have a whiteboard to support instruction for the differentiated groups of students. This whiteboard will be a game changer for our small group instruction. As an ICT (integrated co-teaching) teacher, I often struggle to split the single white boards in the class with the other teacher. One of us usually settles for using a piece of chart paper. A portable whiteboard will allow us both to conduct separate mini-lessons on different sides of the room to better meet the needs of all our learners. Students will be less likely to get distracted by the second teacher in the class if we can just find a way to conduct mini-lessons and small group activities that are not on the same whiteboard.
