Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is to create multiple options of inclusive and comforting seating for all types of learners and their needs in my first grade special education classroom. I recognize that not all students learn best using traditional classroom seats and desks. The benefits of alternative seating will empower my students to have autonomy in their learning. Non-traditional seating options like a sofa in the library or a rocker can help students ease anxiety and focus on the learning activities. Students with sensory issues can utilize the rolling ball to redirect their attention on their work. Also, using stools for small groups can help aid in removing stress around different learning abilities.

Alternative seating provides students with an optimal opportunity to be fully engaged while being comfortable and having a choice in how they can work in spaces around the classroom.

Creating a comforting and welcoming environment where students can make their own choices in the learning process has proven to keep students engaged and enjoy coming to school.
