Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting a library of books to be given to my students. As a sixth-grade teacher, I have many students who enter our school from very different backgrounds. This year I have about 50 students or 1/3 of my student population that are below a sixth-grade reading level some are as low as kindergarten and first grade.

I refuse to let these students get overlooked.

I am going to create a book club that will allow these students to practice their reading skills and build upon them by providing varying levels of books from second up to fifth grade. My goal is to get all of these students up to a minimum of a fifth-grade level and I can only achieve that with your help!

My students are special because they are children. They are children who deserve every opportunity, who deserve to follow their dreams, and who deserve someone to inspire them, and I'm hopeful that helping them boost their confidence by teaching them to read will give them any opportunity that they choose to follow.
