Help me give my students opportunity to be able to learn at carpet time and to learn how to self regulate their emotions when upset.

My Students
I am an Assistant Teacher and work full time. This year my classroom is switching from a full day which was six hours, to a part day of 4 hours. This year, we will have breakfast and some learning, recess, and lunch and then the children will go home. This is my first year being a part day class. My responsibilities in the class are to help assist the teacher, helping keep the children's attention. One day a week I will teach the children. We serve children who are low income, ages three to five year olds.
The children come in to school each day so happy and excited to see what the day will bring.
Our children love to learn and explore. The children are very helpful in the classroom and to the teachers and students. Our students have helper jobs such as table washer, line leader, door holder. Each week they come in ready to do their jobs in the classroom.
The children are very caring. When they see someone that is having a hard time or sad. The children will help regulate each other,by helping each other breathe and feel better.
My Project
In our class we use a lot of breathing techniques. This rocking chair will not only help with that, but give me the opportunity to sit closer to the children at circle time. The children in our classroom, when they are upset, sad, mad, angry and more can go to our safe place that we have in the classroom. The safe place is a place they can go to use some of the breathing techniques the help them calm down. Sometimes though, unfortuately some of our children are not capable of calming down using those techniques or on their own.
I plan on using the rocking chair as another tool, to help comfort the children and make a connection with them.
It is very important that the children learn to cope and be able to calm themselves down on their own. With my 3-5 year old children sometimes all it takes is love and comfort with a connection. In the past I have had children who, when in the safe place just need that one on one and sit with me. I want to use the chair, and be able to sit their breathe and talk to the child while rocking them. It is very important to me, that my students are able to feel and recognize their emotions and be able to self regulate themselves. It is my hope that my students will remember how important it is to be able to regulate their emotions.
