My Students

We're just beginning to rock! Our fifth grade classroom is fortunate enough to be a part of a music program called, "Modern Band." We have all of our instruments at this point, but are working on fulfilling the technology component that will make the program whole. Help us rock on!

Our students at my school come from a diverse background.

We are a primarily Hispanic school with students that have parents with a limited education background. Our students are a true cultural melting pot, coming from several different backgrounds, blending to one beautiful campus of learners. We celebrate the diversity at my school, and use their differences as a means to teach the value of cultures, customs, and traditions through dance and song of many nations. My school receives very little funding, because, despite these challenges, are students have been very successful in standardized testing in the past. We pride ourselves in our high academic expectations, and have learned to be creative in obtaining funds to enrich our students' lives. Although our funding may be minimal, we as a school finds ways to continue to enrich our students learning opportunities through the arts

My Project

These material will be utilized in many ways. The television will be used to show DVD's we create of our band rehearsals. We will analyze our stage presence and showmanship to help improve our performance prior to our actual shows for the school. We will also use the television to watch final performances. Apple TV will allow our class to share these performances with other schools involved in Modern Band across the country. The iPad will be the device we use to record our performances. The BOSE sound dock will work as a wireless component to use with the computers and devices we currently have to amplify our music. It will also serve as a tool for small groups listening to music and working in groups to practice their performance part. Students will learn to work as sound engineers, broadcasting engineers, production, and video directing with the help of this technology. These tools will help bring the "Modern" in to our "Modern Band" program here at Crestwood.

This project will make a difference in the lives of many students for years to come.

I plan on continuing "Modern Band" for the duration of my teaching career, and the resources being provided will be accessible to hundreds of students. Learning to produce, edit, and perform shows is a skill that is useful for the future This musical opportunity has brought such pride to these students, that many are now taking lessons on their own and sharing their love of music with their families.
