Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in third and fifth grade gifted. They come from warm and caring families. My group consists of five English as a Second Language Learners (ESOL), and twenty-two others that have recently exited the ESOL program.

My students are eager learners and enjoy all types of learning and technology.

Specifically, they love to keep up with current events and follow along with the most up-to-date election news. In addition, all seventeen of my fifth graders are looking forward to applying to a magnet school of their choice at the end of this school year. They are looking forward to challenging themselves even more as they embark on their next educational adventure and I want to send them off ready to accept any challenges that await them.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad and a keyboard case so that my students can conduct a class campaign and election. My students will have the opportunity to design the campaign posters, slogan, and flyers on their iPad. They will also be able to campaign in class each day and present their platform to their classmates.

At the end of the campaign run, students will be able to cast their votes using various free apps on the iPad.

They will take turns in the election booth and the votes will be tallied electronically and presented digitally through the use of the iPad and various presentation apps.

By the end of this project, my gifted students will have been able to experience the democratic election process first hand while using technology to shape their education and prepare them for a constantly changing digital world.
