Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a music class in which students learn modern music with modern instruments (guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, etc.) and perform throughout our community! My modern band classes have several new musicians excited to learn an instrument. We have the instruments and amps, however, there are a few supplies that we really need. By providing more power supplies, 1/4-inch cables, extension cords and surge protectors, we can replace our defective ones while also allowing more students to rehearse simultaneously.

In doing this, the students have a sense of comradery while also developing key traits like playing in time, cueing each other in, and leadership through assisting their classmates in real-time.

We also have an abundance of physical space for our equipment and the shelving, peg boards, and guitar hooks would assist with functionality and organization of the classroom, while the rugs, lamps, and phone charging station will help create a relaxed and more engaging environment. The classroom itself has walls that are painted black and no windows, so by providing these materials the students would feel more welcomed!
