Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These tools will provided students with the opportunity to handle and examine different fossils and geodes from various localities and geological ages. They will also have the opportunity to mold their own fossils through hands on learning.

Students experience first-hand the power and limitations of using fossils as evidence of past life and as one of the bases for determining evolutionary relationships and how they affect our world today.

Students will benefit from resources that will be shared and some that are individual and personal. Using real fossils in an elementary classroom is essential for bringing Earth's history to life in a tangible and engaging way. Fossils provide direct evidence of the organisms that lived millions of years ago, allowing students to explore the process of evolution, the diversity of life, and the changes our planet has undergone over time. By learning about fossils, handling fossils, and making their own; students can make connections between abstract concepts and real-world examples, deepening their understanding of geologic time, adaptation, and extinction. This hands-on experience fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a sense of discovery, making the study of Earth's history more memorable and meaningful. Real fossils also allow students to engage in scientific practices, such as observation, classification, and inference, developing their skills as young scientists
