My Students

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK? ROCK OUT TO READING!!! My students are discovering reading in many different ways: Reading to Self; Reading to Someone; Write about Reading, etc. My students need more exposure to reading by discovering how Listening to Reading can be fun and grow a young reader's mind.

We are proud Title 1 school-which means that many of our students are on free or reduced lunch and come from economically disadvantaged homes.

I personally have 15 kindergarten students that are eager to become the best readers they can. They need more opportunities to be exposed to reading in as many new ways as possible. I am hoping with this project that I can receive new materials to promote learning to read by READING (just in different forms).

My Project

Our class is requesting a wireless listening center that will allow more students at a time to work in and immerse themselves in reading. Listening centers can enrich a child's multi-sensory experiences with books and really expand their oral language skills. We are also requesting a listening center spot that will allow students to listen together with a partner and be comfortable at the same time. When listening with a special friend, the opportunities for playing creatively, retelling, and acting out parts of the story are endless.

Hearing a book read on cd helps a student see how the words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way.

It helps them focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. Your donations for a new listening center will give my students more exposure to higher level texts and different genres of text. With the requested materials I will be able to provide my students with another outlet into the wide world of reading.
