Help Mrs. Robb

Geology rocks! We are a first grade class in a high poverty school. We are going to become first grade geologists, and we need to get our hands on many different kinds of rocks. We also want to record our findings and create presentations, so we need a digital camera.

Our students rarely have the opportunity to visit new places to help us collect rocks. We could really use some more rocks in the classroom to help expand our knowledge of the natural world. We have laptop computers in our school, but no digital cameras.

A class set of many different kinds of rocks can really help us "see the world"! These collections of rocks will give us more opportunities of sorting, classifying, and research in the classroom. The availability of digital cameras will allow students to become backyard geologists and record their findings. Then they can create digital presentations of their learning.

Your help will give the students a chance for my students to really explore the properties of rocks, close the "digital divide" by exposing them to new technology, and further prepare them to be scientific thinkers in our world.
